Bob Mizer was a controversial and prolific American photographer and filmmaker who is best known for his ground-breaking magazine Physique Pictorial that mixed photographs and illustrations of mostly men with his own political critiques. He is also best known for establishing the Athletic Model Guild in 1945, the oldest male model photography studio in the U.S.A.

Included in the present collection are three images taken in the brightly-coloured shower which Mizer began using as a set in 1960: a Black and white man together, an older model flexing, and a young guy with swept-back hair. David Hockney drew on the monochrome images of this shower published in Physique Pictorial for several paintings and prints, including Man in Shower in Beverly Hills (1964, Tate) and Boy About to Take a Shower (1964).

Other images include: Mack Reed as a sailor; Brian Idol stood over a vanquished friend; two men stood in a bathtub; numerous open-air shots; Andre Boersma kneeling; two men playing veterinarians; etc. 31 images include frontal nudity.
