'In 1674 the Oxford press published Paolo Boccone's Icones ... edited by Morison from a manuscript sent to him by Charles Hatton, whom he had met in Paris during the 1650s. Morison's edition, dedicated to Hatton, demonstrated that his method of classification could be extended to ferns and other plants which had traditionally been thought to be without flowers or seed' (ODNB).
