Boeotian Pottery Female Idol Figure, TL Tested

Ancient Greece, Boeotia, ca. early 6th to 5th century BCE. A finely preserved, hand-built pottery female figure of a characteristically abstract presentation with a flared base and a slender body. The flat form is emphasized with a pair of nubbin arms protruding from the shoulders as well as a tapered neck. The petite head bears an avian-like 'beak' nose with a curled volute ornament atop the brow, and a conical headdress protrudes from behind the skull. Intricate linear, stippled, and lattice pattern motifs are painted in black across the front of the gray-hued body, and a ladder-style fringe wraps around the base of the figure. Size: 1.7" W x 5" H (4.3 cm x 12.7 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.

Condition Report: Minor nicks to head, body, and base, with a couple of small spalls, otherwise intact and very good. Great remains of pigment throughout. TL drill holes beneath base and inside of headdress.
