LUCKY LUKE (AS SEEN BY...)
Lucky Luke’s Long March,
Lucky Comics 2026
Original artwork no. 66.
Signed. India ink on paper
35 × 50.2 cm (13.78 × 19.76 in.)
Lucky Luke has just found Red Cloud, who is being held hostage by Joe Dalton. The action begins when the child bites his captor’s finger. Lucky Luke fires. The panels shrink. The pace quickens, until the child rushes toward his savior. Note that when the hero fires and Joe falls, everything unfolds from the child’s perspective. In this nearly wordless panel, structured like a shot-reverse-shot sequence, the onomatopoeia and the sounds of the revolver serve to punctuate the frantic rhythm that emerges.
“I had fun playing with this convention established by Morris, which allows Lucky Luke to break a gun apart when he fires it. For this scene, I had to look up online how to take apart a Colt 45 Peacemaker so I could identify all the small parts I could draw.” M.B.
