Book- Banvard

[ translate ]

Book- Banvard's Geographical Panorama of the Mississippi River, With the Story of Mike Fink, the Last of the Boatmen, a Tale of River Life, 1847, Boston, in original wrapper, H.- 9 in., W.- 5 3/4 in.
Condition Report: Condition is consistent with age and use. The cover of the booklet shows paper discoloration, consistent with paper from 1847. The wax covering has breakage around spine of booklet and shows years of use. Booklet cover is completely detached from the rest of the book, but remains together due to wax covering. Back of cover page shows ring of water, possibly from something being placed on top in the past, but does not come through the face of the cover. Booklet pages also show sign of age and paper discoloration/yellowing. Title page says booklet was published in “Boston: John Putnam, Printer, No. 81 Cornhill. 1847.” Booklet seems to be a complete number of 43 pages (only text), held together by what looks like a very thin jute twine. There are no maps or fold outs within booklet. The back cover is also completely detached from the booklet and shows a 1.5 inch tear from spine of booklet, approximately 2 inches from bottom corner. Directly below, coming from the bottom (proper) left side of the back cover there is a folding of the paper and minor tear. There is also a visible oil stain coming through back cover page, near the top middle area. The booklet itself is completely detached from the front and back cover and wax covering, but protected by remaining together. Overall, this is a handsome example of an antique writing sample. ______________________________________________________________________________ ALL PROPERTY IS SOLD “AS IS.” NO STATEMENT REGARDING CONDITION OF ANY ITEM, WHETHER IT IS MADE ORALLY AT THE AUCTION OR ANY OTHER TIME, OR IN WRITING IN THE CATALOGUE OR ELSEWHERE, SHALL BE DEEMED TO BE A WARRANTY, REPRESENTATION, OR ASSUMPTION OF LIABILITY.
