Borjalou Kazak Prayer Rug
Late 19th century, 170 x 138 cm, South West Caucasus
This immaculately drawn, red-ground Borjalou Kazak prayer rug displays a re-entrant motif at the bottom of the field and a narrow, bridge-shaped arch at its very top. The two green diamonds with the typical hatched outlines placed on the central axis are flanked by two honeycomb shapes with an interior drawing of trees, while four distinctly smaller honeycombs lie in the corners of the field. Four stars and two stepped polygons complete the design. An almost identical example was sold by us in 1986. – Small repiled areas in the field, corroded brown. Good overall condition, original selvedges.
