Description Depicting three red-crowned cranes and pine, both symbols of longevity. Manufacturer’s mark of Takeuichi Chubei with patent number to underside 2252515 ( 二 二五 二 五 五 五 一 五) , this mark was used used ca. 1890 - 1905. ( the ceramics shop opened around 1887 (Meiji 20) ) Shark's skin (samehada 鮫 肌) glaze invented by Takeuchi Chūbei for "Transparent Porcelain" held by Takeuchi Chiubei's porcelain factory, Shippo Kaisha, in Nagoya, in the Aichi prefecture of Honshu, Japan. Porcelain with a shark skin glaze and fine hand painted enamels. Its tactile surface earns it the name 'sharkskin', but it also is known by the trade name 'Coralene'. It is produced by a kiln-firing process involving special fluxes, so was expensive.
