Round Defence Shield Bedja, Sudan, northern province of Kassala, in the Nubia Desert. Late 19th - Early 20th century Skin Diameter: 33 cm; Depth: 10 cm. (ancient skin renovation) In a circular form, this rounded shield presents an important central protrusion named “Umbo”. This particular form is obtained thanks to a special drying preparation of the skin, placed under to sun on stones which will emboss the piece as desired. The border is hemmed. It is held on the reverse thanks to a grip.
