The vase was made in the studio of potter Roger Guérin (1896 - 1954) , who, together with ceramist Edgard Aubry (1880 - 1943) , were the leading ceramists in Bouffioulx in the first half of the 20th century.
In Bouffioulx, near Charleroi, stoneware or grès has been produced since the late Middle Ages. This hard ceramic type is fired at more than 1250 degrees Celsius.
Roger Guérin always made beautiful vases of which this is a beautiful example.
