Boulton (Matthew, manufacturer and entrepreneur, 1728-1809).- Banks (Sir Joseph, Baronet, naturalist and patron of science, 1743-1820).- Minutes of the Lords of the Committee of Council for Coin..., manuscript, title and 272pp. excluding blanks, ruled in red, title and first 10pp. stained, page 9 a few words and part of margin torn with loss and repaired, later endpapers, modern half morocco, gilt spine, folio, 1798-1802.

⁂ With numerous mentions of Matthew Boulton in his role as an engineer of new coinage; he built a "mint to supply copper coinage to the government... established at Soho Manufactory." - Oxford DNB. Also mentions Sir Joseph Bankes as one of the commissioners sitting on the Committee and Samuel Garbett (1717-1803), industrialist and ironmaster; published a report in 1837, showing "the authors' intimate knowledge of the trade in precious metals, offers suggestions for more economical methods of coinage... ." - Oxford DNB.

"Matthew Boulton Esqr. attending, was called in... [to] prepare a Report... 1. What are the apparatus which Mr Boulton would recommend for Coining, in a given time a greater number of Pieces than are usually now coined at the Mint? 2. what is the Plan which Mr Boulton would recommend to improve the workmanship in Coining, so as to make the Coin of such a Construction, as will render it more difficult to be counterfeited and more easy of Detection of false, and to reduce the Expence of Coining... ." - Minutes.
