[Boulton, Thomas]
The voyage, a poem in seven parts: containing, reflections upon a farewell. Calm. Moderate breeze. Hard gale. Shipwreck. Deliverance. And Return. Boston: N.E.: Printed for the author, 1773

4to (185 x 130 mm). A-F4 (of A-G4), woodcut head- and tailpieces; tear to lower margin of title, some soiling, foxing, and chips to margins, lacking final part ("Return" - see catalogue note). Stitched; edges frayed.

Thomas Boulton's The Voyage — a scarce poem by a Liverpool Loyalist

The poem is dedicated to Joseph Wanton, Esq., then governor of Rhode Island, and was composed by Thomas Boulton, a Liverpool native who became a Loyalist during the Revolution.

Copies of The Voyage are rare, with only one other having been offered at auction in the last century. While the present copy is lacking its final part, "Return," the ESTC notes the following: "MSaE and PPRF copies have 47, [1] p., omitting the last part. As issued?". A 1770 edition, printed in Liverpool, has never appeared at auction, and the ESTC list only two institutional holdings (Liverpool Central Libraries, and the Houghton Library).
