Bowl - Copper - Iran - Qajar dynasty (1796–1925)

Copper bowl, richly embossed and decorated with 20 motifs in boxes, showing hunting scenes (on foot, on horseback, on the backs of elephants) , representations of fantastic animals, two scenes of allegiance of a Royal person, a man carrying a horse (with a young woman on its back) on his shoulders, and one other being devoured by lions, like a martyr. Two very fine lines of writing frame the ensemble, on top and on bottom. The two lateral handles are decorated with scroll work and writing, but were added after the bowl was made, no doubt in the 19th century. We think that the bowl is from the 18th century in all likelihood. All is resting on a square base of rosewood with bevelled edges. Syria, with heavy Persian influence, 18th/19th century.
