Box - Important green Napoleon III style cylindrical opaline box with lid

[ translate ]

Important green opaline box or casket in Napoleon III style, from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
It certainly had to be a powder holder as was used in that period. It has a cylindrical shape and measures 7 cm high by 10 cm wide and 5 cm deep. Attention to detail with the lid with raised designs in pure gold and flowers applied in porcelain and the edge has a ring in pure gold and on the entire edge they reflect these raised designs in pure gold with two semicircles and dots on the inside. The golden band between the lid part and the box is a little faded and this attests that it is an original antique casket and that it does not detract from its beauty, in fact I would say that it is a clear sign of a casket made by skilled window painters for the drawings in gold and ceramists for the flowers in relief. I would say it is in excellent condition considering its age.
It is difficult to find these pieces on the market because the opaline ones with the brass edge or at most painted with flowers are common but this workmanship with painting and porcelain is really important and unusual to find on the market
This design in pure gold runs symmetrically along the entire perimeter
The box is characterized by V-shaped lines with raised dots connected to the center and porcelain flowers applied to the sides.
But the real peculiarity of the object and what makes it a true piece of high antiques is the depiction of a porcelain bouquet of flowers on the upper front, placed in relief on the right and left and handmade and painted with soft colors on the shades of powder from light to darker and green among pure gold hieroglyphs. I would say a sculpture of flowers, where the petals of the flowers raised above the base are depicted with particular attention.
A box whose photos are explanatory to describe the beauty.
This upper representation is delimited by a gold line at the end of the box.
A completely different object from the opaline boxes or caskets that you see on sites or on the market, simple, without decorations, solid color if not with a single brass profile or the best ones are painted with flowers or printed with polychrome images.
This casket is instead enriched with a porcelain decoration and pure gold designs which attest to the care and its commercial value.
It lends itself to multiple uses as a jewelery holder or as decoration on a piece of furniture or in a bathroom.
It is set between classic antique furnishings or modern furniture. Alone or with other boxes.
Photos are more explanatory than words to describe the beauty of the object.
Considering its age, it is in excellent condition. The pure gold only along the perimeter that joins the upper part to the lower part is a little worn. I used it for a period together with a collection of boxes of various materials and eras, some of which were very important, which I sold, including a similar rectangular one, but this one is more important for the decorations. They come from the furnishings of the family palace inherited by me and given the multiplicity of objects and ornaments I am selling many of them to avoid keeping them closed in a wardrobe and I have too many and even though I often love changing the arrangement of the furniture and ornaments I cannot keep everything exposed.
It comes from the furnishings of my family's palace which I inherited.
From the objects and furniture that I found in the house I deduce that my ancestors had always been very careful to have objects of great value and particularity created as they were lovers of beauty.
Above all, the house was considered a business card and having an intense social life they always had valuable furniture and ornaments made that attested to their importance. One of my great-great-grandfathers was a great historian and also mayor and in the second half of the 19th century he was responsible for renewing the furnishings of the palace, maintaining the important ones already existing from the 16th to the 18th century and having a series of very valuable furniture and ornaments created, some of which valued by Christie's for their importance as paintings, silver, furniture, porcelain, ornaments and jewellery.
Even though the palace was already furnished, he wanted to make a change by creating new porcelain sets of dishes with his initials, furniture and ornaments of great value, as well as having many bedspreads and linens made which I am selling for the inherited quantity.
I dwelt a little because, not being a trader, I know the history of the objects and individual furnishings, furniture and ornaments and the family anecdotes from my grandparents and parents.
My parents gave me a passion for antiques and I like to know the history of every object I have at home.
I have attached a few photos not only for the economic value but above all to show that boxes of this size and with such care are difficult to find except in famous auction houses such as Christie's or Southey's or in antique dealers.
They are objects that since I have so many of them, some of which are the same and others similar, I have decided to sell instead of keeping them locked in a wardrobe so that they can have a new life from buyers who love this genre.
Having several children, they often had several identical pieces made, thinking of the dowry to be given to each child in the future.
To ship I use private couriers and not the Italian post office, this is so that the object has double packaging, first with wadding and sponge and cardboard and then placed in a box with polystyrene and communication is easier for delivery.
I follow the object until it is delivered, communicating by telephone with the courier if the object has been taken to a collection centre.
Shipping costs vary depending on whether it is Europe, zone 1, less expensive than zone 2, such as eastern countries, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or Norway, Malta and Cyprus and then the rest of the world.
Customs duties will be paid by the buyer
