Box, Snuffbox - Silver, Cowrie shell - 18th century
A fine antique snuffbox made of a precious Cowrie shell with silver or silver-plate (not tested) mounts. The inside of the silver has been gilded, so possibly this box was made to hold tobacco. France (?) . 18th century. Dimensions: H 4cm x L 8. 7cm x W 5. 9cm Note: in good condition, the clasp is a bit lose.
