Boxhole Meteorite Iron, IIIAB Australia Found: 1937 A relatively young impact crater, at least in geologic terms, Boxhole, near Alice Springs, in the Northern Territory of Australia was discovered in 1937 at which time metallic fragments were found. Subsequent search efforts resulted in an additional meteoric find of other Iron masses. Weighing nearly 8 kilograms (17.5 pounds), this Boxhole Meteorite is rather massive and has some visual qualities of Henbury pieces that were discovered nearby. The size of the crater may be indicative that it was formed by an explosion of the meteorite on impact. This impressive specimen is dense and solid, with numerous and wonderful crater-like regmaglypts and a lovely reddish-brown patina over the naturally sculptural meteorite piece, which is an exceptional combination of size and aesthetics - a fine and uncommon Australian meteorite. The specimen does have an old worn collection label of "Boxhole" affixed, but the word "Hole" has faded. Overall Measurements: 7.87 x 7.68 x 2.76 inches (20.00 x 19.50 x 7.00 cm), weighs 7.95 kilograms (17.52 pounds) [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
