[Boxhorn (Marcus Zuerius), ed.] Respublica Moscoviae et urbes, FIRST EDITION, engraved title depicting Tsar Michail Fjodorowitsch Romanow, errata leaf, some light waterstaining, small tear to E2, contemporary blind tooled vellum over boards, slightly soiled, [Rahir 1845; Adelung I, p. 27, 14], 12mo, Johannes Maire, 1630. *** Anthology with texts by various, partly anonymous, authors (including Alesandro Guagnini, Johannes Faber, Antonio Possevino) on geography, genealogy, religion, politics and the army of Russia. Provenance. From the Broxbourne Library presented by John Ehrman in 1978, whose father Albert Ehrman (1890-1969) had been the original collector. Described as one of the three great English 20th century collections of bookbindings by Mr H. M. Nixon who, in his ‘Broxbourne Library: Styles and Designs of Bookbindings from the Twelfth to the Twentieth Century’ (London, 1956) describes a representative selection of the most notable examples from each century.
