Publisher. : Maeght Editeur, Paris. In good condition, minimal discolouration by a former mat. Van Velde was born in Zoeterwoude-Rijndijk in 1895. After his primary school days, Van Velde went to work in the company of a house painter. He developed into a painter. He settled in Worpswede in Germany in 1922 and in Paris and Corsica from 1925. In the 1930s he met the Irish writer Samuel Beckett in Paris, who published about them. Through this contact, there was an interest in his work and he was invited to exhibitions in Paris, New York and elsewhere. Works by Van Velde can be found in museum collections in England, France, the Netherlands, the United States and Switzerland.
