Bretelles Hygiéniques / Guyot. ca. 1895.
Remember suspenders? They were quite the men's fashion accessory back in the day, and producers like Guyot emphasized that their products were "the only famous suspenders ever produced" and "the only perfect suspenders in the world." In fact, men had an awful time keeping their pants up before Guyot came along with this well-fitting and comfortable handmade product, which won the gold medal at the Paris Exposition and the Grand Prix at the St. Louis exposition. Here, Hingre's maiden, alit by a Mucha-esque mosaic sun, bestows a pair of the revered suspenders to a young boy who waits pleadingly to try them on. Provenance: The Albertina Museum, Vienna.

Size: 9 1/8 x 5 3/4 in./23 x 14.5 cm
Condition: B+/ Embossed and mounted with pinholes at corners. Framed.
Printer: H. Bernard, Paris
Key Words: Art Nouveau; Fashion; Children
