BREVIARIUM Moguntinum (Mainz). Psalterium only. [Marienthal: Fratres Vitae Communis, about 1475.]
The Psalter only of a very rare breviary, use of Mainz. The missing text has been supplied in manuscript in 1601 by Conrad deutelius, probably at Neustadt. Goff dates this edition to c.1475-80. One of only three copies known to ISTC, all imperfect, and the only one on paper. GW 5393; CIBN B-833; Boh(LB) 295 = 297; Goff B-1170; ISTC ib01170000.
Chancery octavo (142 x 93mm). 98 leaves (of 548, Psalterium only). Missing text supplied in manuscript signed by Conrad Deutelius, 1601. (Some toning and dustsoiling, a few small closed tears affecting text, small marginal paper repairs.) 17th-century gilt-tooled calf over wooden boards, initials FWGH and date 1601, stamped lozenges of Virgin and Child and IHS on covers, brass corner pieces and catchplates, one strap, edges blue, leather index tabs (one strap defective). Provenance: Conrad Deutelius (signature after KL) – acquired from Lathrop C. Harper, Inc, New York, 1 July 1957.
