Elizabeth I, third issue, ‘crown gold’ coinage, half pound, mm. portcullis (1566-67), crowned bust 3C left, ELIZABETH D G ANG FRA ET HI REGINA, rev. crowned shield of arms, E R at sides, SCVTVM FIDEI PROTEGET EAM, single and double stops, wt. 5.55gms. (S.2520; N.1994; Schneider 742, same dies; Brown & Comber G10), some weakness, but fairly well centred and exhibiting mostly sharp legends, probably one of the finest known for this scarce initial mark, good very fine or perhaps a bit better
