Elizabeth I, sixth issue, ‘crown gold’ coinage, pound, mm. key over woolpack/key over erased woolpack (1596-99), bust 8A left, ELIZABETH D G ANG FRA ET HIBER REGINA, rev. crowned shield of arms, ER at sides, SCVTVM FIDEI PROTEGET EAM, pellet stops, wt. 11.15gms. (S.2534; N.2008; Schneider 801 (same dies as F14); Brown & Comber F16), slight flan flaw in front of forehead but featuring a delightful portrait, a mostly bold royal shield, and crisp legends, extremely fine or nearly so, a rare over-mark and thus of great interest

Spink attributed it as B&C F14 as the reverse overmark was not noted. Collector’s note: ‘Rev: Key over erased woolpack’ Clearly struck late in the period of use of these two initial marks.
