British Petroleum Motor Spirit Flange Sign
Made in United Kingdom. 1921 - 1939. Double-sided porcelain (DSP). One of the first advertising campaigns after the British Petroleum name was created, this flange features the sunburst logo along with the seldomly seen "motor spirit" script. In the early 20th century, "petrol" was a trademarked brand name, forcing competitors to market gasoline as "Motor Spirit" to identify it as dedicated automobile fuel rather than household kerosene. Marked, "FRANCO SIGNS" lower right. 16" x 24" x 2". Authenticated by The Authentication Company (TAC #402847). All items are guaranteed authentic by Miller & Miller Auctions. From the Barry Yorgason Collection.
Condition
Very good colour and gloss. Minor field chips. Edge chips with minor fraying and pitting. Pitting to flange.
