British School, early 19th century- Portrait of Emilie de Gomez-Barrozo (1813-1903), aged seven, standing full-length, next to an urn of flowers; oil on canvas, inscribed on the reverse and bears old label with written inscription from the sitter's granddaughter 'ma grand-mère maternelle' attached to the central horizontal stretcher bar, 135.5 x 91 cm. Provenance: Private Collection. Note: The present work was painted in London in 1820 when the sitter was aged seven years old. The written details on the reverse tell us the following information about the sitter: Emilie Gomez Barrozo. Born in 1813 in Lisbon, Portugal. Died in Lusignan [France] in 1903, aged 90. Painted in London in 1820 at the age of 7. Married Léonard de Banes Gardonne in 1829. Mother of Láonie de Mèstral Combremont.
