Bronze Flower Vase

This archaistic bronze vase is modeled after ancient Chinese ritual bronzes, featuring a slender cylindrical neck flanked by tubular side handles. The compressed globular body is richly decorated with taotie masks, leiwen geometric patterns, and stylized blade motifs, all executed in low relief. The dark patinated surface enhances the sculptural quality of the decoration, while the balanced proportions and restrained form reflect the enduring influence of ancient Chinese bronze ritual vessels on later decorative arts. Taotie masks are among the most recognizable motifs of early Chinese bronzes and became a defining feature of later archaistic works inspired by Shang and Zhou prototypes.
