Bror Julius Olsson Nordfeldt, known as B. J. O. Nordfeldt, was a Swedish-born American painter and printmaker recognized for his expressive brushwork, bold color, and simplified forms. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and in Europe before settling in Santa Fe in 1919, where he spent two decades painting Southwestern landscapes, Pueblo ceremonies, and portraits of local residents. Influenced by European modernism, he emphasized emotional expression over precise realism. An innovative printmaker, Nordfeldt also developed the white-line woodcut technique, allowing multiple colors to be printed from a single block. His work helped connect modernist experimentation with the landscapes and cultures of the American Southwest.
