oil on board, signed lower left indistinctly 'Brynhild Parker', 60.5 x 35 cm (ARR)
Exhibited: Alex Reid & Lefevre Ltd, London, 'The 3rd Exhibition of Paintings by The East London Group', December 1931, cat. no.13
Literature: David Buckman, 'From Bow to Biennale: Artists of The East London Group' revised edition, Francis Boutle Publishers, illus. p.346
Note: this confident and intense painting is a brilliant example of this important, yet rarely seen, artist's work. Celebrated as both a painter and illustrator, she was a member of the East London Group from 1930, and this interior painting demonstrates the influence of Camden Town Group, such as Walter Sickert and Harold Gilman. She also created posters for Shell in the 1930s. She had a solo exhibition at the Lefevre gallery in 1938 and her works are in public collections such as Manchester Art Gallery, Ulster Museum and Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum.
