Inscribed in pencil beneath the image: "For David Belch with warn greetings from the d'Aulaires." David Belch was head of public relations for the San Francisco Public Library for many years, and, following that, was for a few years part owner of California Book Auction Galleries, predecessor company of PBA Galleries.
