Lyn Revson: Style Icon of the 1970s

Lyn Revson was one of the foremost tastemakers of New York society from the late 1960s into the 1970s. Known for her youthful and vibrant style, she personified the relaxed elegance of the era, often landing her on the pages of Vogue.

Through her marriage to Revlon founder and owner Charles Revson (1906-1975) from 1964 to 1974, Lyn brought style and prestige to Revson’s empire of drug store cosmetics. The couple resided in a 28-room triplex on Park Avenue that had previously belonged to Revson’s formidable competitor, Helena Rubenstein. Mrs. Revson had her dressing room covered in gold leaf. In addition to the Park Avenue triplex, the Revsons split their time between their New Rochelle country estate and their yacht, the Ultima II.

As a loyal client of Hermès, she was honoured with a bag designed especially for her, the “Lyn,” characterized by a watch incorporated into the closure. For jewellery, Mrs. Revson had a strong preference for Bulgari and Jean Schlumberger. A sumptuous emerald, amethyst, turquoise and diamond demi-parure originally acquired by Lyn Revson, is today part of the Bulgari collection.

After divorcing Charles Revson, Lyn started a relationship with Lee Guber, the former husband of Barbara Walters. Though her life became less public, she always maintained her chic persona and in 1977, she published ‘Lyn Revson’s World of Style.’ Stylish to the end, Lyn Revson passed away in 2011.

Provenance:
Formerly in the Collection of Lyn Revson (1931-2011)
