NGIL MONKEY SKULL CREST IN WOOD - BULU / BOULOU - CAMEROON

Located in the border area between Cameroon and Gabon, the Bulu are part of the Fang group.

Like the Fang of South Cameroon famous for their large white masks, the Bulu also practiced the Ngil ritual to fight against witchcraft and poisoning.

Ngi is the gorilla, a formidable animal with which the applicant identifies after his acceptance into the secret society.

Their monkey statues are notable for the invention of round and simple shapes, and for great accuracy in observing the animal's attitude. The Bulu admit that there is a part of their ancestors in the symbolism of the gorilla.
