Provenance: Some very talented carver with a very sharp knife carved this burl pipe in the form of a Civil War soldier wearing a kepi. You can feel the toughness of the man and maybe some weariness about him. Smoking pipes depicting Civil War themes were popular as gifts, many of them carved by soldiers themselves. Ours has never been smoked. It measures 1 1/2" wide by 3 1/8" long by 2 1/4" tall. Inv. 3770
