Burnett - Pair of Water Lily Lithographs
This lovely botanical lithograph is from Mary Ann Burnett's Plantae Utiliores; or Illustrations of Useful Plants, employed in the Arts and Medicine. The work was published in London by Whittaker & Co. between 1842 and 1845. Mary Burnett was the sister of Gilbert Burnett, the Professor of Botany at King's College London.
The lithographs feature original hand-coloring. The work was issued monthly and featured illustrations of many differernt plants including lilies, melons, mushrooms, medicinal plants, and flowers.
Provenance: Inscription reading 'Sara Anna Marsh with very kind regards to James Law Challis, May 12th, 1870'
