Bust, Mater Dolorosa - Baroque - Wood - 17th century

Very rare bust of St. Anna. An exceptional piece representing the Austrian baroque culture. Original, not repainted, dated from the years 1680 to 1700. It has been treated so that the paint is not chipped without affecting the original state of the piece It comes from the region Upper Austria, Salzburg. Attributed to the famous baroque sculptor Meinrad Guggenbichler (1649-1723) Weight: 10. 9 kg Measures: 55 cm x 48 cm x 27 cm Guggenbichler was the celebrated pupil of Thomas Swanthaler and worked with him on commissions for the Benedictine monasteries in Salzburg and Krems. The faces of the figures, the voluminous drapery organized in long, parallel folds punctuated by small ripples and the leg thrust outward can be seen in a number of this master's works, including a group of the Return of the Holy Family from Egypt, circa 1690 at Harvard University
