Set of 2 two-panel byobu screens with a very nice polychrome continuous Nihonga-style painting of birds in an oak tree in autumn, with susuki-grass and shrubs in autumn colours. It is a very dynamic painting in which an autumn breeze is suggested, with slightly bending branches and shrubs. Two birds are sitting on a large oak branch on the right screen are communicating with one bird on the left screen. The birds (alike a thrush) are really well executed in a nice detailed way. Nihonga (日本画, "Japanese-style paintings") are Japanese paintings from about 1900 onwards that have been made in accordance with traditional Japanese artistic conventions, techniques and materials. While based on traditions over a thousand years old, the term was coined in the Meiji period of Imperial Japan, to distinguish such works from Western-style paintings or Yōga (洋画) . This impressive set of 2 roomdividers can also be easily mounted flat on a wall as one impressive large piece of art. Of course they can also be positioned on the floor when slightly folded.
