Byobu, Folding screen - Lacquer, Wood - Mountains - Pair of elegant small black lacquer 2-panel room dividers with a spacious view of a mountain range. - Japan - Shōwa period (1926-1989)

Pair of small black lacquer two panel byobu-screens depicting a very spacious view of a mountain range. On several places in the upper part of the screens some silver mountaintops just peak over translucent cloudbanks. Two larger mountaintops are depicted in gold and brown tones with high relief details. These ranges are covered by voluminous pine trees. A cosy house adorns one of these golden mountaintops. The left screen inscription on the bottom left corner reading ‘Hon kinmakie’ 本金蒔絵 (Real gold lacquer work) . Only some small spots on one screen. Other than that, these screens are in a very good condition. Please see the photos' as a reference to their condition. The black lacquer is still very vibrant with a nice shine to it. This even black layer in combination with the contrasting gold en silver tones give the screens a striking and wondrous display. These kind of room dividers are light in weight and can also be easily mounted flat on a wall and presented as one piece of art. Including its original cardboard box. Total width: 172 cm (4 x 43 cm) ; Height: 75 cm. Lacquerware 漆器 (shikki) is a Japanese craft with a wide range of fine and decorative arts, as lacquer has been used on a wide variety of objects.
