Byobu, Folding screen - gold sprinkled paper - With signature 'Tan'yū' 探幽 - Large continous painting of 7 colorfull cranes, 2 still flying and 5 along a wildly undulating river - Japan - late Edo period - 180 - 220 years old 6 panel roomdivider with a continous scene of 7 dynamically painted large cranes (tsuru) . Situated next to a river, surrounded by pine trees. Painted in nice subdued colors, without losing contrast. On different places there is wear and loss of paper and signs of age and use. But overall in good original condition. Please see pictures. The screen has a dark blue brocade border with woven peony leaves motive, executed in gold thread. Signed in the right lower corner: Kanō Tan'yū 狩野 探幽 (4 March 1602-4 November 1674) . This roomdivider is light in weight and can also be easily mounted flat on a wall and be presented as one impressive work of art. Total width: 378 cm ( 6 x 63 cm) - height: 177. 5 cm.
