Byobu, Folding screen - goldleaf paper - Kubota Beisen (1852-1906) - 2 panel screen with a beautiful painting of white doves & lanterns hanging in Wisteria in bloom - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912)

Two panel byobu-screen with a polychrome painting on gold leaf depicting white doves and bronze lanterns hanging in a white wisteria in bloom by the Nihonga painter Kubota Beisen (1852-1906) signed: Beisen-e (painting of Beisen) and sealed: Beisemu, written with hentai kana-syllables (old writing) . In the Meiji period Beisen was one of the most prominent painters in Japan. Please see last picture where there is an image of this artist. Although his style remained recognizable Japanese, his knowledge of Western principles and methods is also reflected in his work. Beisen trained under Suzuki Hyakunen (1825–1891) . [2] The way in which he integrated Western perspective and techniques in his work was a self-taught skill (Wikipedia) . These kind of room-dividers are light in weight and can also be easily mounted flat on a wall and presented as one piece of art. Total width: 143 cm; ( 2 x 71. 5 cm) , Height: 161. 7 cm. In nice original condition. When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity that this piece of art was indeed created by Kubota Beisen.
