Byōbu folding screen - Lacquer, Paper - Japan
A delightful, six-panel hinagata byôbu 雛形屏風 (doll festival folding screens) showcases a Kanō School-style painting, capturing a tranquil natural landscape.
The scene is dominated by an aged, leaning white cherry tree 桜 (sakura) , its branches adorned with blossoms in full bloom, extending across the panels. Positioned at the tranquil bend of a gently winding river, the base of its mossy trunk is embellished with red camellias 椿 (tsubaki) . Various small birds flutter and dart about.
Signed and sealed on the left side. Signed ‘Painted by Hôunsai’ 豊雲齋筆, sealed in red: ‘Fujiwara […] un’ 藤原[…] 雲.
Colour and ink on paper. The painting is surrounded by a broad paper border with a soft pink wood bloack printed design of gourds and scrolling foliage. Protected by a red lacquered wooden frame.
Period: Japan – Late Meiji period/Taishô period (First quarter 20th century) .

Total width: 161. 8 cm (2 x 27. 7 cm and 4 x 26. 6 cm) , Height 56. 8 cm.
Considering its age in a very good original condition with some paper wear along the hinges. Please have a look at the photos for a clear condition reference.
