Byobu - goldleaf, paint and gofun - 6 panel gold-leaf screen with a rare painting of a river landscape with a waterwheel and flowers - Japan - Late Edo period

A six panel gold leaf byobu-screen with a polychrome anonymous rare painting of a river landscape with green hill and dark blue water and various varieties of mostly white chrysanthemum flowers (kiku) and some aster (shion) . In the middle of the screen a water wheel as used in a garden setting. The borders of the gold leaf clouds and the chrysanthemum flowers are in relief. With small parts of gold-leaf missing near the edges. Some old repairs and signs of age. This screen is probably at least 150 years old. With all original hardware to protect the corners. When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity. These kind of room-dividers are light in weight and can also be easily mounted flat on a wall and presented as one piece of art.
