Byzantine Gold AV Solidus of Constans II

Near East, Holy Land, Byzantine Empire, Constans II, ca. 641 to 678 CE. A gold solidus struck approximately between September of 641 and July of 678 CE. Obverse: Facing bust of Constans II, with long beard, on left, wearing plumed helmet and chlamys, and Constantine IV, on right, wearing crown and chlamys; between them is a cross. Reverse: Heraclius, on left, and Tiberius, on right, standing facing and both holding a long cross; between them, cross potent on base and three steps. Compare to DO 30. MIB 31. Sear 964. Size: 0.75" Diameter (1.9 cm); gold quality: 97%; weight: 4.1 grams
