Byzantine Gold Cross Pendant with Garnet Stones

Circa 13th-14th century AD
This beautiful gold cross pendant is fashioned in the shape of a Latin cross, with each arm elegantly flaring outwards and framed with braided borders. Garnet gems adorn small cells at the outer corners, while a circular cell enclosing a garnet cabochon sits at the junction. A hinged suspension aperture crowns the top, and the reverse side is left flat and unworked.
