Byzantine Reliquary Cross Pendant
11th-13th century AD. A bifacial bronze reliquary cross pendant, hinged with substantial articulated suspension loop with ridge; one side features Corpus Christi in relief, flanked by a small figure of a saint in two arms, letters below; on the other face is a standing nimbate saint in orans pose, flanked in each arm by the bust of a saint in a roundel. 105 grams, 11.1cm (4 1/2"). From the property of an Essex private collector; acquired in the early 1990s.
