Byzantine Ring with Lion
6th-8th century AD. A bronze finger ring with segmented shoulders, trumpet bezel, couchant lion(?) modelled in the half-round. Cf. Chadour, A.B. Rings. The Alice and Louis Koch Collection, volume I, Leeds, 1994, item 476 for type. 11.4 grams, 35.30mm overall, 20.36mm internal diameter (approximate size British T 1/2, USA 9 3/4, Europe 21.89, Japan 21) (1 3/4"). From a private Netherlands collection; previously in an old collection since before 1980. The beast is somewhat worn but appears to have a distinct 'ruff' or mane framing the face. [No Reserve]
