(C) COLT 1911 .45 ACP SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH COLT LETTER INDICATING SHIPMENT TO SPRINGFIELD

Circa 1917 per included factory letter, which further indicates that this pistol was one of 700 shipped to the Commanding Officer at the Springfield Armory on July 28th, 1917. Flat top U notch rear sight, blade front sight, left side of slide with two-line two-block patent and address information, rampant Colt at rear, right side with model designation. "H" stamped vertically at top of firing pin retaining plate channel, "H", "Y" and "G" at top of the frame near disconnector hole. Barrel with stacked "P / H" on barrel hood to be read muzzle up. Frame has intertwined GHS for Gilbert Stewart, US property mark on left side of dust cover, right side with serial number behind slide release. Small parts comprise checkered spurred hammer, slide release with milled relief cut, thin tab safety with milled relief cut, long smooth trigger, checkered magazine release, short 1911 grip safety, and smooth flat mainspring housing with lanyard loop. Truncated diamond walnut grips, two-tone magazine. CONDITION: Overall good, retaining approximately half of the factory blue finish mixing with dove grey and some thin chocolate patina, mostly to slide. Some silvering to sharp edges and reciprocating areas throughout, including to sharp edges. Straps essentially gunmetal grey. Mechanically fine, bore with strong rifling and some light oxidation throughout. White paint has been used to infill legends for enhanced visibility.
