Inscription: At the lower part inscribed in the printing plate: "C.C. Glassb. sc.", "J. D'Alembert".

Date: 18th century

Description: Portrait of the French mathematician and physicist Jean-Baptiste le Rond, called D'ALEMBERT, in bust. In addition to his interest in natural science, D'ALEMBERT was considered an important philosopher of the Enlightenment. Together with Denis DIDEROT (1713 Langres-1784 Paris) he was the editor of the Encyclopédie, the monumental work in the Age of Enlightenment.
