According to the Colt Factory archive letter, this gun left the factory as a .45 Colt with a 4 - 3/4" barrel, silver finish, ivory grips, and factory engraving. It was shipped to Charles Hummel & Sons in San Antonio, Texas, on September 4, 1901, in a shipment of 1 gun. Two line barrel address, "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD CT.". Roll die caliber designation on the left side of the barrel, "45 COLT". Two line patent dates on the left side of the frame, "PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY 2, 72 JAN. 19, 75". The rampant Colt logo is in a circle next to the patent dates. Matching serial numbers observed on the frame, trigger guard, and backstrap. Extensively engraved in a scroll and foliate pattern with a punch dot background. Zig-zag borders, banners, and other geometric designs are incorporated into the engraving on this gun. A master engraver executed the engraving on this gun. One-piece factory checkered ivory grips. CONDITION: This gun retains the vast majority of the original factory-applied silver finish. Good bore with well-defined lands and grooves. The grips show some age cracks and fit the gun very well.
