\Artist: C. M. Garms (1863-1944)
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Hand signed\Dimensions: 40_2_60_cm
Coenraad Matthias Garms (1863-1944) was born in Amsterdam. From 1883-1886 he attended the applied arts school Quellinius School, together with Hart Nibbrig, among others. Subsequently he was taught at the Academie Royale des Beaux Arts in Brussels (until 1889) , among others by Professor Stallaert. He returned to Amsterdam and from there, together with his friend the painter Piet Egmond, traveled to Algiers, Tunis and Italy. In 1892 he became a member of Arti et Amicitiae and in 1899 of the St Lucas artists' association, of which he was secretary for 16 years. When he turned 70, Arti honored him with an exhibition, which was followed by dinner at the Carlton Hotel, hosted by St. Lucas. A few years before the outbreak of the war he moved to Huizen. He liked to paint cityscapes (including in Amsterdam, Hoorn, Enkhuizen, Rhenen and Harderwijk) and landscapes. The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam owns work by his hand. At a later age he also made sensitive watercolors. This beautiful view of Rhenen with the Cunera Church is painted from the height of the inner mill. The painting is in good condition, but a cleaning will brighten it up. It is in a simple, yet beautiful frame. Shipping only within the EU.
