[CAMPIGLI - EDITORIAL PROOF] DE GRADA, Raffaele (1916-2010)....
[CAMPIGLI - EDITORIAL PROOF] DE GRADA, Raffaele (1916-2010). Campigli. Rome: Il Collezionista editore, [1971].
A fascinating working proof for an intended, but never published, new edition of the monograph on Massimo Campigli issued by Il Collezionista in 1969, one of the principal studies devoted to the artist and still regularly cited in the literature on his work. The present copy offers a scarceinsight into the preparation of the projected 1971 edition: text and illustrations from the original publication have been cut out and pasted onto layout sheets, extensively annotated with corrections, manuscript instructions, pagination and typographical directions for the revised design. Numerous annotations specify the intended positioning of illustrations and alterations to the page layout, providing an unusual material record of an editorial project that remained at the preparatory stage.
Working proof of the volume, folio () 152 leaves with manuscript pagination, arranged in loose gatherings, with pasted text and photographic reproductions throughout and extensive annotations in pencil and ink. Housed in a pasteboard case (minor defects). [IN LOT WITH:] DE GRADA, Raffaele. Campigli. Rome: Il Collezionista, 1969. Folio, in publisher's wrappers. (2)
