Renaissance Revival Desk, finished on all sides, in dark mahogany, having a molded top, canted column corners, Greek Key frieze, arched kneehole, paneled cabinets with drawers on one side only, molded base, 30 1/2" x 68" x 34". Some loss to finish, especially on top, wear to molding corners.
Engraved silver plate on working edge center top reads "Presented to Major General Smedley Darlington Butler, United States Marine Corps, by the Officers and Men under his command, at the Marine Barracks, Quantico, Virginia, upon the occasion of his retirement from active duty, 1 October, 1931". Provenance: Belonged to USMC Major General Smedley Butler, recipient of two Congressional Medals of Honor.
