Set of 4 maps in 161 engraved, cloth-covered and folded sheets, in 28 cases covered with bottle-green grizzled percaline, spine decorated with a gilt imperial eagle, fawn basane title coins listing each map. Exceptional set of engraved maps, including a reprint published under the Restoration of the famous Cassini map of France, originally given in 1744-1787. To the 117 sheets present (out of 181) of this map, the maps, also edited by Picquet, of Piedmont (11 sheets (out of 12)), the States of Genoa (8 sheets) and the Austrian Netherlands raised by the Count of Ferraris (25 sheets) are attached. Of these maps, 55 were partially watercoloured at the time. The original blue and pink cardboard cases were covered with percaline, struck with a golden imperial eagle in the second half of the 19th century. Provenance: From the Alexandre-Léopold Berthier Library (1827-1891), Viscount Berthier, Brigadier General, Chamberlain to the Emperor, Knight of the Order of the Sword of Sweden. Son of Joseph-Alexander, the youngest of the Berthier brothers, he was the nephew of Napoleon's marshal, himself a cartographer. Missing in Cassini's France are maps nos. 13-18, 46, 49-54, 61-69, 73-78, 82, 85-90, 94, 115-120, 127- 133, 139-144, 150, 160, 169-174, 181, and in Piedmont, map no. 1.
