CAPRE, François. - Catalogue des chevaliers de l'ordre du collier de Savoye, dict de l`Annonciade, avec leurs noms, surnoms, qualitez, armes, et blasons. Turim: Barthélémy Zavatte, 1654. A good copy of the first edition of this sumptuous and elaborate catalogue of the knights of the Collar of the Annunciation, the highest honor of the state of Savoy and still today of Italy. It is the most renowned Collar Order in Europe. A magnificent work, entirely woodcut, with the exception of the preface and the table at the end, illustrated with a full-page figure representing a Knight of the Annunciation in typical dress and 270 full-page coats of arms with biographies, always framed by an elegant border. The depiction of the coats of arms follows the order of the "creations" from the year of the foundation of the association, according to Capra, in 1362, up to 20 July 1653; with a curious handwritten update at the end, continuing from the year 1653 to 1821. Only three copies recorded in the RBH. Folio (427 x 285 mm). Woodcut vignette on the title page, initials and headpieces, portrait with a full-page woodcut coat of arms on the verso of the same leaf and on the following 270 numbered leaves, depicting helmets, crowns, crests, flourishes, supporters and much more, each with text framed by an elegant woodcut border; 2 manuscript leaves with an update at the end (slight occasional soiling, some stains, occasional browning). Contemporary vellum binding. With an ownership signature on the title page of Count Jerónimo de Valprega.
From the private library of the Kings of Italy.
